Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley was once considered one of the best running backs in the NFL. However, after suffering a left knee injury in 2018, Gurley hasn't looked like the same player as he was before.

During a recent interview with ESPN, former Los Angeles Rams center John Sullivan made a bold claim about Gurley.

“He’s one of if not the best skill-position player I’ve ever played with in my career,” Sullivan said of the new Falcons RB, per ESPN’s Vaughn McClure. “He’s a different running back than Adrian was — but on that same level. Todd is a Hall of Fame-type talent. The Falcons are lucky to have him.”

John Sullivan blocked for Todd Gurley for two seasons on the Rams, so he knows what type of player Gurley is.

This past 2020 season, Gurley’s workload dropped as his per-carry average went from 4.9 to 3.8. As a result of that, he recorded a career-low 857 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 25-year-old was ultimately released by the Rams this offseason before the Falcons pounced and signed him on a low-risk one-year deal.

Despite his recent struggles, Gurley has a proven track record of success. In his four seasons with the Rams, he rushed for at least 1,100 yards in three of his five campaigns, totaling 70 touchdowns. He was also was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and a first-team All-Pro in 2017 and 2018.

Nevertheless, after signing with the Falcons, Gurley will seek to prove that he's still a Pro Bowl player. As for Atlanta, they'll enter the 2020 season looking to end a two-year playoff drought.
