After Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda Softworks' next major project will be Fallout 5 – says Bethesda's Todd Howard.

In spite of the disappointing Fallout 4 and the disastrous launch of Fallout 76, it seems like many fans are still keenly waiting for Bethesda Softworks' next Fallout game. That's why IGN took it upon themselves to ask Bethesda's head honcho Todd Howard about the next title in the series. Speaking to IGN, Todd Howard says that “Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

This puts Fallout 5's release way off into the future – especially since Bethesda's current project is and is only Starfield – a game that Bethesda has been working on for a very long time now as well. On top of work on Starfield, Bethesda is also actively creating new content for their existing online MMOs – Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online – both of which appeared in the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. Meanwhile, Fallout 5 will only appear after the release of The Elder Scrolls 6, which by itself is also already coming out way off into the future, as Bethesda focuses most of its resources on Starfield.

Starfield is due to come out in 2023 to both Xbox and PC, with The Elder Scrolls 6 coming out probably a couple of years after that. Hence, it would be safe not to expect Fallout 5 to come out until 2030. Thankfully, it's not like Bethesda isn't thinking about their next projects while working on the current ones. In fact, Todd Howard has also previously commented in interviews with IGN that Bethesda already has ideas in place for Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6.
