The second out of three planned games for the reimagined Final Fantasy 7 has been announced – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Finally, the second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga. Say what you will about Square Enix's decision to change the direction of the plot in Remake, and how they baited their fanbase into the idea of a faithful remake, FF7R was a magnificent game in all technical ways. So, it's just great for us to get another dose of that game, but now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag, there's no more reason for FF7R to pretend that it's a remake when it's not. Rebirth embraces the reboot nature of the new FF7 Trilogy and will be taking the entire series in a new direction.

Based on the first look trailer, the game is more FF7R, a game and vehicle meant to move the story. We're hoping that we'll get the Gold Saucer here finally, and be introduced to Red XIII and Vincent Valentine. We know for sure that the game will at least feature Zack Fair, hopefully with the same gusto and attention that Square Enix gave Sephiroth in Remake. There's still going to be quite the wait before this comes out, however, as the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will not be coming out until next Winter 2023. That makes the third game still miles away from release, but that probably just gives Square Enix something to announce in the 30th-anniversary celebration of the game in 2027.
