Howard Feggins, the former head football coach of Saint Augustine's, is suing the school over his firing. The school terminated Feggins in his first season in October without a buy-out option. They named defensive coordinator Jody Owens as the interim head coach.
Feggins believed he was fired unlawfully and took umbrage with how he was forced to run the team. Saint Augustine's fired him due to his playing of two ineligible players.
“It was a lapse on my part when we played Virginia Union,” Feggins said. “Kam Page, a student-athlete wore the jersey of a player who was no longer on the team and participated. He played three snaps on kickoff return… For this type of violation, it's very rare you would find someone let go, terminated immediately.”
Feggins also said the school claimed that Nyron Campbell-Adams, the other ineligible player, participated in five games. Saint Augustine's has refused to comment on Feggins' lawsuit.

The St. Augustine's Falcons struggled all season, under both Feggins and Owens. The team was unable to secure a single victory, finishing the season 0-10. They could hardly move the ball against opposing teams. The most St. Augustine's put up in a game was 17 points in a 24-17 loss to Winston-Salem State. They scored 14 points twice and had two games without a single point.
Despite the inability to score, a good amount of their games were close. They had one-score losses to Bowie State, Fayetteville State (their homecoming matchup), Johnson C. Smith, Shaw, and Winston-Salem State.
