Epic Games gave their players quite the surprise in Fortnite’s item shop. Without any prior notice, Fortnite presents the Dark Phoenix Skin (a.k.a. Jean Grey) available in the item shop.

Jean Grey’s debut in the item shop is quite different from previous Marvel heroes who made their appearances before her. The Dark Phoenix skin doesn’t necessarily come in a bundle which means this skin has little to offer. However, if you are a true Marvel fan, you’d grab this skin regardless. Dark Phoenix costs 1,500 V-Bucks with the inclusion of a back bling and a loading screen. Sadly, you can only acquire The Phoenix Force (Back Bling) and Wrath of the Phoenix (Loading Screen) through purchasing Dark Phoenix. Then to complete the set is the Rising Phoenix emote which costs 300 V-Bucks only.

Dark Phoenix’s appearance in the item shop is definitely unexpected. Normally, Fortnite would come up with Marvel crossovers as a method of promotion for an upcoming film or show. In fact, Epic Games would even tease upcoming Marvel skins prior to their release. However, in the past Epic has already released some Marvel skins before it became a promotional method. It’s safe to say that these earlier releases of Marvel skins are the Fortnite adaptations of the characters. Nowadays, players mostly receive MCU versions of these Marvel characters so it’s refreshing to see a Fortnite version again.
