After almost half a year, FromSoftware has finally addressed the looming Dark Souls servers issue for PC players.

Back in January, community hackers discovered an exploit in Dark Souls 3 that compromised players' save files and personal information. Initially ignored by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, the hackers forced the publisher's hand by live-streaming the use of the exploit, bringing more attention to the issue. With this, Bandai Namco officially addressed the issue. As the PvP servers for both Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls: Remastered for PC used similar code and the exploit could have been used for either game, Bandai Namco decided to temporarily deactivate these Dark Souls servers. At the time, fans were relieved, but also worried – FromSoftware didn't specify a timeline, and it was only less than a month to go before FromSoftware was to release Elden Ring.

Finally, Elden Ring came out and appeared not to experience the same issues like the ones above (although it also came out with its own slew of bugs and glitches.) It would seem that FromSoftware directed all of its resources in making sure that the Elden Ring experience wouldn't be compromised, and that became the agenda for the studio for the past four months. Now that Elden Ring is at its most stable state since launch, it appears that FromSoftware finally remembered about this complaint raised by hackers over five months ago. Through an emailed message to PCGamer, a FromSoftware customer support representative stated that the studio is “currently in the process of restoring the online servers for the Dark Souls series on PC” and that they “plan to restore online service for each game progressively, bringing back servers for Dark Souls 3” once they complete the necessary work to fix the problem.

But then again, FromSoftware didn't specifically give a timeline for when players can expect this fix to come. It doesn't really matter much, however, as it seems that a vast majority of Souls fans have migrated to Elden Ring already. Still, we do hope that FromSoftware fixes this issue soon so that those who have been playing the past games can enjoy these games once again.
