Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched a little over a month ago but developers, Treyarch is ready with a big update. It's not uncommon for devs to look towards improving a newly released game but Treyarch has gone above and beyond. The season one update mostly features weapon tuning across the board for its Multiplayer mode but it sports many other fixes as well. You can check the official announcement from Treyarch on their official website.

The war rages on

Season one is set to drop officially on December 16, 2020. The update file varies depending on whichever platform you choose but the range is between 3GB to 7GB. COD games have finally toned it down with the unwieldy patch sizes made infamous by Modern Warfare. There'll be no 50GB patches here, at least for now.

We'll quickly go over some of the key changes incoming for COD: Black Ops Cold War. There's a whole slew of updates, tweaks, nerfs, and additions coming so be prepared to go through a lot of notes.

MULTIPLAYER

Cold War's Multiplayer mode gets a massive update in Season One. Eight additional MP maps will be added to the game for all the players to roam and shoot at their discretion. A 2v2 game mode titled Gunfight will be made available for players once Season One rolls out. Players can also take the game at a slower pace with the new Prop Hunt game mode made popular by Garry's Mod. One team of Hunters will scour maps to find members of the enemy team disguised as Props. Season One will also introduce two new guns for players to mess around with. The Mac-10 SMG and the Groza assault rifle will be made available in the game in the game's Battle Pass System. A whole slew of updates and tweaks to available guns will be made prior to the new season.

Treyarch has no doubt loaded COD to the brim with new exciting content for its players to enjoy. No matter how you want to play Cold War, there's always something to keep you occupied once the new season starts.

Zombies

COD's famous Zombies mode is receiving some love in the big update. Two new Zombies modes are on their way to the fun PvE game mode. Jingle Hells is a holiday-themed Zombies event that sees players fending off festive-looking enemies with a slew of weird winter-time weapons. It sounds like a mess but it looks so fun to play. Later in the season, Treyarch has plans to reveal details about a Cranked event that's set to debut in Zombies.

The two new weapons headed to Multiplayer will also make their way to the Zombies game mode. There will also be Zombies-specific Operator Missions that players can play through once the patch launches. More changes are inbound for the expansive additional game mode.

Final Words

There is certainly a substantial amount of updates, additions, and changes coming to Black Ops Cold War in a relatively small package. Hopefully, this is the beginning of completely optimized game updates. Nobody wants to download a 50GB patch just to keep playing their favorite games.

Treyarch certainly seems to be well on top of everything that's going on in their latest Call of Duty game. Their efforts in building the game towards its full potential have not gone unnoticed. Maybe this can serve as a turning point for the entire franchise but that will of course depend on just how well the players and fans will perceive the changes in Season One. If Treyarch can sustain the same level of polish and attention towards future Seasonal updates, then they're definitely headed in the right direction.
