After Ubisoft's disappointing release of Far Cry 5, fans are hoping that their newest entry could redeem itself by reclaiming its lost glory which peaked with Far Cry 3. So far the trailers looked promising especially with the introduction of renowned TV actor, Giancarlo Esposito, who portrayed significant roles in Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Westworld, and the Mandalorian. His portfolio and accolades as an actor could potentially make him a rival to dethrone Far Cry 3's Vaas in becoming the greatest villain in the franchise and one of the best in video game history.
However it's not only his introduction that brought some hype to the game as the opening credits looked like it was destined for a red carpet appearance in both the Oscars and Emmy Awards.
Besides his introduction as the game's primary antagonist, there are other important details about the game to be discussed. Here are other talking points prior to its release in the future.
STORY
Far Cry 6 is set in an isolated fictional Caribbean island of Yara which drew inspiration from Cuba. Just like its real life counterpart, Yara is ruled by a dictator and is technologically behind compared to the other countries in the Caribbean caused by an economic blockade. The developers admitted that they heavily drew inspiration from the Cuban Revolution. Given the historical basis, the story could be more grounded in reality as compared to the other Far Cry entries.
Yara is ruled by a fascist dictator named Anton Castillo (portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito) who rules the island with a belief of empowering the people where he encouraged the citizens to stand firm, knowing that outside intervention was no longer a plausible option for the country's development. There's also a paternal relationship where Castillo plans to mold his son Diego to follow his footsteps. This narrative could potentially lead to Diego serving as Castillo's kryptonite or it could raise questions if he could be a potential ally or foe.
The player controls Dani Rojas, a Yaran who sides with the guerilla faction hoping for a way to end the regime. It will be interesting to discover if the ending will feature Rojas burdened by responsibilities in deciding the fate of the island by choosing the guerillas or experiencing a change of heart by siding with Castillo's regime especially knowing that the developers are aiming for Castillo to constantly make an appearance throughout the player's experience.
This is also the first time where the protagonist is given the ability to speak, which could add more depth in the game's storytelling which can only work if the dialogue was properly done.
There are rumors speculating that Vaas will make an appearance. This could be possible given his immense popularity as one of the best video game villains of all time and his impact is currently felt as there are theories surrounding his potential return in Far Cry 6.

GAMEPLAY
Much like the previous Far Cry games there is a heavy emphasis on first person shooter mechanics, where the player is tasked to customize his weapons, use vehicles, and hire mercenaries to aid in the revolution. Traps could be used since you're part of a guerilla resistance movement. The game's setting may force the player to use dilapidated vehicles which might feature a depreciation and repair system. There are images that reveal that weapons were customized using car parts and other materials. There is also a pet dog who could potentially serve as a courier for the revolution.
If the previous entries relied on a vast open space due to the jungle, island, or dessert setting, the latest installment will also focus on the traditional settings of the Far Cry series however there is the added twist due to the prominence of an urban city. This will definitely widen the game's shooting and hunting mechanics.
RELEASE DATE
Far Cry 6 was supposed to be released on February 18, 2021 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStations 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia, however due to the pandemic the scheduled release had to be delayed. It's still unknown when the game will be released. Regardless of the game's current situation, the intriguing story and the diversified gameplay shows a lot of promise for Ubisoft's redemption arc.
