According to Dot Esports, League of Legends developer Riot Games has confirmed the location of this year's Mid-Season Invitational: Busan, South Korea. This will be the first international League of Legends tournament held in the country since 2018, and its first time hosting the Mid-Season Invitational. To add to this, MSI 2022 will also feature a live audience in its venue, Busan’s Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO).

No changes to the format will be made, however the teams from the League of Legends Continental League, which encompasses the Commonwealth of Independent states, will not be participating due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. This means one group will lack one team.

MSI 2022 will begin with the Group Stage, where four groups of teams fight for a spot at the Rumble Stage. After the Rumble Stage comes the Knockout Stage, wherein the top four teams make their way onto the playoffs.

“South Korea has been one of the forerunners in the export industry for decades,” said Global Head of LoL Esports Naz Aletaha. “We are thrilled to honor this country’s heritage in esports, to celebrate the passion of Korean fans, and to bring all the talent of MSI pro teams to Korea for the first time. Busan was an incredible setting for the 2014 and 2018 Worlds, and we can’t wait to go back to see the challenge between the best League of Legends teams in the world,” he added.
