Outriders triumphantly launched yesterday on Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia. With its Steam performance alone, we can already tell how strong the game's launch has been. In spite of server issues that made people disconnect, Outriders still peaked at over 111,000+ concurrent players on launch day.

POOR SERVER PERFORMANCE? – OUTRIDERS FANS DON'T SEEM TO MIND

Outriders registered big numbers today, in spite of persistent server issues that prevent its players from actually playing the game. According to Steamdb, the game peaked at 111,953 concurrent players on Steam. The actual number of people playing the game on all platforms maybe double or triple that number.

This is already a great feat for Outriders, which makes it one of Square Enix's most successful launches in recent memory. All of this in spite of the game's poor server management. People getting disconnected from an online game is one thing, but this issue is exacerbated by the fact that in Outriders, multiplayer is completely optional.

Hence, the game received mixed reviews at launch on Steam, with many people complaining about the online-only requirement of the game. To add to many players' frustrations, the game can't be paused even when you're playing alone!

The disconnections can happen anytime, and the game's servers are as erratic as the Mad Hatter. Outriders developers People Can Fly have been turning their servers on and off round the clock over the past 48 hours. You can see how often they've been resetting servers over the past two days on the game's Twitter account. We roughly see one or two server resets every hour.

All these server issues just make the game's peak – which allowed it to climb up Steam's top ten – more amusing. In spite of disconnections that make it seem like People Can Fly is preventing players from enjoying Outriders, hundreds of thousands of players still flock to this game.
