A new skin line arrives to League of Legends – Snow Moon. Set in the same universe as Blood Moon, it seems that the bigger picture for how these two skin lines intertwine has yet to be painted. Another Ashen Knight has also been revealed, and it's Pantheon.
All of these skins are now available with the League of Legends Patch 12.12 update.
Snow Moon Caitlyn — 1350 RP
“A tool of chilling acuity, Caitlyn is the Snow Moon's most elite sniper. It was her craving for a calculating nature, stripped of the moorings of sympathy, that drew her to serve. There was once warmth in her heart; in dreams, she sees a figure, wild and untamed, in a world not meant for her.”
Snow Moon Caitlyn’s splash art exhibits not just her, but her new sniper rifle. It looks sleek; something that could have been carved out of fantasy novels, and it looks as though it was being given to Caitlyn in a very ceremonial manner. Caitlyn herself looks absolutely stunning, with her long, white hair and matching light-colored eyes. Her clothes and accessories make her look like royalty or a noble lady, with her hair ornament and the fur accessories on her arms.
The splash art greets us with a cold, unwelcome vibe, showcasing a scene almost personal to Caitlyn.
Snow Moon Caitlyn’s recall animation shows a red, full moon that turns blue before she fully returns to base. The model of her gun in-game is actually white and not black or grey, as is seen in the splash art. All of her skills have the color palette of white, light blue, and cool-toned red incorporated in them, even in its passives.
Her ultimate ability is probably the biggest money-maker in this skin (aside from her looking absolutely stunning, of course), with the cast line being the cool red first then glowing white-blue as it charges. The mark on the enemy is that of the moon, aside from the red crosshair, and the shot explodes a hint of red once it hits the enemy.
Dev update: Snow Moon Caitlyn's splash art has been adjusted, specifically her facial elements, and now aligns more closely to previous Caitlyn splashes.
Snow Moon Illaoi — 1350 RP
“Illaoi, the High Priestess of the Snow Moon, imagines a world free of the madness that consumes it. Her vision can only be realized when every soul is cleansed, every demon ripped from its bindings. Maintaining order with an icy resolve, she'll stop at nothing, her own humanity a fleeting memory.”
Compared to the cool and calm composure that Illaoi seems to show us in the Snow Moon Illaoi splash art, she is seen bashing the mask of a demon in with her weapon. Her eyes and tattoos glow a light blue, and her hair is white as the moon itself, braided with red ribbons. Compared to Snow Moon Caitlyn’s elite-like attire, Illaoi is dressed more like a warrior, and it seems that she fights like one as well. Wrapped around her wrist is a bead bracelet similar to Snow Moon Caitlyn’s and Snow Moon Kayn’s.
Her tentacles are a lot more white/light-blue in the in-game model compared to that of the splash art, and the animation around it does a good job of making it look cold to the touch. The red, full moon appears on her recall animation as well, turning white when she hits the gong twice. All of her attacks follow the same white, blue, and cool red color palette, and her E ability makes her marked enemies glow white, with their soul moving backwards and back to their body every time they get hit by Illaoi’s tentacles. During her E ability, if the enemy runs away from the range of her soul, then the ground gets filled with fog as they get in the trance-like state of this ability.
Her crit animation is a cute little kick.
Dev update: Snow Moon Illaoi did not receive any changes before being released.
Snow Moon Kayn — 1350 RP
“The communion was nearly complete. Kayn could feel the Blood Moon demon writhing within. It was then that the Snow Moon assassins struck. Stolen away from that temple into theirs, Kayn was inducted into the Snow Moon Order, their ancient ways piercing and unfamiliar. Only time will tell if their taming of his spirit holds.”
The snowstorm is more visible in Snow Moon Kayn’s splash art, yet the cold doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He stands in front of what seems to be multiple torii gates, indicating that he’s at a temple, and floating behind him are his two forms; Rhaast and Shadow Assassin Kayn (both looking much warmer than he does, really.)
Unlike Snow Moon Caitlyn and Snow Moon Illaoi, who both have light-blue eyes, Kayn has one light-blue eye, and the other a bright red, illuminated in the shadow cast on his face. He has red horns atop his forehead plate that look like they materialized into being instead of actually being there, and his attire is somehow reminiscent of both a warrior and a king, with a big gold crescent moon in the middle of his waist as a belt buckle.
Article Continues BelowCompared to Snow Moon Caitlyn and Snow Moon Illaoi, Snow Moon Kayn’s weapon in-game is actually more red than it is blue and white, and it doesn’t glow like theirs as well, and the same goes with his skills. The red moon that was consistent with the two ladies’ recall animations weren’t present in Kayn’s, too.
When he transforms into Rhaast, he is completely red, and the recall animation is a little different, with more erratic movement. The moon appears, but it is white first before it turns into a blood red. Even his abilities turn red.
When he transforms into Shadow Assassin Kayn, ice crystals form on his feet, turning him completely white-and-blue-themed, reminiscent of the actual skin-line. His recall animation includes the full moon as well, but it is simply white throughout the animation. As you may have guessed, all his abilities turn white and blue as well, with just a hint of the cool-toned red that they use in the other champions too.
Dev update:
- We've added the orb in base Kayn splash.
- His portrait in the HUD will change in game for each form.
- Assassin form: We're keeping the same color trail during Shadow Step but will fade out the start of it so it transitions better.
- We've adjusted his Q SFX to sound more impactful on all forms.
Ashen Knight Pantheon — 100 ME
“A brave knight of old, who legends say slew a god in battle so that all humankind might see that they were their own masters. Standing watch over the ashes of his former lands, Patheon himself is now the only foe left to conquer, and he awaits a worthy challenger to face one final time.”
Ashen Knight Pantheon is almost ghostly in its appearance. The focus is completely on him as a purple color completely contrasts the otherwise dark background, where rain is pouring and the place looks absolutely deserted.
Pantheon himself is transparent, only an outline of his body can be seen if not for his full armor and helmet. His shield looks almost like a big mask, and the ground is moving around his spear.
Ashen Knight Pantheon’s recall animation looks pretty sick, as he unearths a throne and he grows wings. When he returns to base, his shield comes flying back to his arm. He looks a lot more solid in-game than he does in the splash art, making him feel more real, too.
His palette is a lot darker, incorporating a dark grey, a hint of purple, and an icy-white.
His abilities follow the ghostly feel of his skin, where he throws his spear and it leaves a trail of dark smoke behind it. His shield glows when he charges his Q ability, too.
The ghost theme stays true in his E ability, where his shield grows in size, no longer looking solid as he lunges a number of attacks with his spear. Seeing the full face of the shield is almost scary.
Unlike the wings he had in his recall animation, the wings he had on his ultimate ability was midnight black in color, and the sound accompanied by the moment he charges into his enemy is terrifying.
Dev update: Pantheon's cape shape and patter now resembles that of Ashe Knight Pyke.
