Fnatic finished the League of Legends (LEC) European Championship Spring 2022 Group Stage in 2nd place. Throughout the 18 games played, they only dropped 5, making their win-loss ratio 13-5 by the end of the season. This puts them one win behind the season's first place, Rogue. But there was one thing that a member of Fnatic did better than Rogue, or any player in the league this split. Fnatic bot laner Elias “Upset” Lipp set a record for the least deaths in an LEC Group Stage, ever.

Before the LEC Super Week began, Upset was already dying at a staggeringly low rate. After playing 15 games, he has only seen a grayscale screen 8 times. At this time, the record holder was legendary bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larssen sitting at 13 deaths at the end of the season. For Upset, this meant he had to keep his death counter under 5 for the rest of Fnatic's three games.

Fnatic managed a win in their first game of the week, against Team BDS. Upset ended this game with a Perfect KDA of 7/0/4. The next day, however, Fnatic failed to get a W. They fell to fellow playoffs team Misfits Gaming in what was a bloody game, with Upset's Aphelios dying three times. If he wanted to break the record, he can only die once. On Fnatic's final game of the season's group stage, Upset picked up Zeri. Through her mobility and the innate tankiness granted by the build path, Fnatic win the game with Upset deathless.

Upset finished the regular season at 11 deaths, two under Rekkles' previous record. This puts Upset's average deaths per game at 0.6, and he finished Group Stage with an impressive 16.5 KDA. For his performance, he also earned the MVP of the Split award.

Of course, his support Zdravets “Hylissang” Galabov also deserves some credit, for the help he offered to his carry.

To put Upset's achievement into perspective, the second person that died the least was Rogue's top laner Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu who tallied 24 deaths. Team BDS support Dino “LIMIT” Tot died the most at 78 times.
