The Jacksonville Jaguars gave a huge deal to Nick Foles prior to the 2019 season. As bad as the contract seemed in the offseason, it was even worse when Foles took the field. He was injured in Week 1 and Minshew-mania began.

The Jaguars took Gardner Minshew in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He took over the starting role while Foles was injured. Shortly after Foles returned from injury, he was benched and Minshew was re-entered. In 2020, Minshew is the smart choice as the starting quarterback despite Foles' contract.

Here are three performances for Jacksonville to consider when naming their starter next season.

3. Week 1, Kansas City Chiefs

Gardner Minshew

This was not his best performance but it might have been his most impressive. It was extremely impressive because Gardner Minshew came off the bench in his first professional game to relieve Foles when he left with an injury.

This was a 40-26 loss for the Jaguars but they may have found something at quarterback. Minshew finished 22-25 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He had a QB rating of 122.5, which was his highest of the season. This performance made Jacksonville feel comfortable with the player they had under center.

2. Week 17, Indianapolis Colts

From the first game of the season to the last. Gardner Minshew was named the starter for the remainder of the season even when Foles returned to action. In this game against the Colts, he led the Jaguars to 38 points in a season finale win.

Minshew went 27-29 for 295 yards and three touchdowns. He added one interception and a fumble that was recovered by Jacksonville. This was the performance that Minshew needed as a final audition for the 2020 starting role.

1. Week 8, New York Jets

The sign of a good quarterback is performing well against lesser opponents. That is what Gardner Minshew did when the Jaguars hosted the New York Jets. He finished 22-34 for 179 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception but he did lose a fumble.

Minshew struggled with fumbles during his rookie season. He fumbled 13 times and lost seven. This is something that he will need to fix entering 2020. This was Minshew's best performance in 2019. He was one of the top passers in the nation at Washington State under Mike Leach. Minshew showed his raw ability to throw the football around this season. He is a gunslinger and once he learns how to make better decisions, he could turn into a franchise player.
