GBA Games will be arriving in the Nintendo Switch Online service, reports say, joining the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and the Nintendo 64.

This rumor initially came from Trash Bandatcoot who claimed that an official GBA emulator is coming to the Nintendo Switch. In the tweet, they posted a picture of some of the potential GBA games coming to the Switch. The picture also indicated that the console could possibly utilize the GBA emulator developed by Nintendo codenamed “Sloop”.

Another Twitter user by the name of Mondo Mega supported Trash Bandatcoot’s claim with further evidence. They revealed a list of GBA games that Nintendo is currently testing out before releasing the final build of the emulator. The list included several GBA classics such as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Mario Party: Advance, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Keep in mind that these games aren’t finalized to be a part of the final build.

Throughout the Nintendo Switch’s lifetime since its first release in 2017, we’ve seen numerous classics come to the platform. In 2019, Nintendo released NES and SNES classics on the Switch as part of the online membership expansion. Then in late 2021, games from the Nintendo 64 also made it to the Switch via the expansion as well. Seeing as how there’s a two-year release window pattern, it’s possible that the GBA games could release come 2023. That’s only if the rumors are really true. This won't be the first time Game Boy games have been linked to the Nintendo Switch Online service, as rumors have been around since last year.

When these games do arrive, fans would still not be completely satisfied with the service. One of the biggest gripes of fans with the Nintendo Switch Online service is its limited library. While other modes of emulation would allow players access to any titles they want as long as they have legally-owned ROMs, the Nintendo Switch Online's library is only ever limited by whatever Nintendo chooses to include in it.
