After the New York Giants officially fired him on Tuesday, former offensive coordinator Jason Garrett released a statement regarding his abrupt exit and time with the franchise.

Garrett was thrown onto the coaching hot seat after the Giants' horrible loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Week 11 Monday Night Football showdown. Head coach Joe Judge was nowhere near happy with their performance, ripping their play execution before saying that a new offensive coordinator might be on the books–hinting of Garrett's imminent departure.

In his statement, though, Garrett thanked the team and showed appreciation for the rest of the coaching staff. He also acknowledged that he failed to live up to expectations on him, which is why he is shouldering the responsibility.

“Today is certainly disappointing, but I want to say how truly grateful I am to the Mara and the Tisch families for giving me the opportunity to coach for their New York Giants,” Garrett said, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

“One of the things that motivated me to accept this position was the opportunity to help rebuild the Giants into a contending team. We knew there would be many challenges. My expectations for our offense were much greater than what our results have been, and I accept full responsibility for that.”

Jason Garrett joined the Giants franchise in 2020 after the Dallas Cowboys decided not to renew his head coaching contract in 2019. There were high hopes he would be able to take the New York offense to the next level after his time with America's Team, but clearly, his system just wasn't the right fit.

It remains to be seen whom the Giants will name as Garrett's replacement, but they understand they have to make a decision quickly as they try to salvage what seems to be another lost season.
