Kris Bryant elected to stay put in the NL West this past week, but not with the San Francisco Giants. He came to terms with the Colorado Rockies on a seven-year, $182 million deal that includes a no-trade clause.

Bryant was linked with plenty of teams for a blockbuster free agent deal over the past months, including the Giants. He confirmed to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser that he did have free agent talks with the Giants, but in the end, the two sides had contrasting viewpoints on the contract length.

“We had conversations, for sure,” Bryant said. “I got the sense that they were going for shorter-term, quick-turnover guys, it obviously worked for them last year. I feel they’re staying with that mode.

“It doesn’t mean they’re smarter, but they know what they’re doing over there, I respect it.”

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi noted in October about the team having “a lot of interest in bringing him [Bryant] back.” However, a report ahead of the lockout noted that the team did not have a strong desire to shell out a $100 million-plus deal to any player in free agency.

Bryant capped off his run with the Giants after 51 total games played in the regular season last year. He featured for the reigning NL West champions in the 2021 National League Division Series clash against the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he hit .471 and recorded two RBI.

Bryant joins a Rockies team that finished in fourth place in the NL West standings last season with a 74-87 record.
