The New York Giants have a number of voids to fill on their roster if they hope to spark a potential resurgence in the 2020 NFL season. It appears they already have an idea of the kind of player that can help kickstart the movement.

It is no secret that the Saints are in the market for a premium pass-rusher. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the SNY, they are looking for someone that can make the same impact Hall of Famer Michael Strahan did then he was still terrorizing quarterbacks in the NFL:

One team source said the Giants are definitely looking for that “Michael Strahan-type player” who can change the approach of an opposing offense all by himself. But unless Young falls to them at 4, they’re skeptical that such a player exists in this year’s draft. They’d have to take a shot at a second-tier player on the second day, like Wisconsin’s Zack Baun, Notre Dame’s Julian Okwara, or Penn State’s Yetur Gross-Matos.

And they’ll be in the same bind when it comes to free agency. They’ll likely take their shot at Jadeveon Clowney, but they are privately worried that any of the non-tagged pass rushers will end up priced way above what the Giants are willing to pay.

New York is certainly setting the bar quite high with their expectations for bringing in a player of Strahan's caliber. After all, he finished his illustrious career as a seven-time Pro Bowler, six-time All-Pro, and Super Bowl champion en route to being immortalized in Canton.

The Giants find themselves in a peculiar position with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and a limited pool of players to pick from ion free agency. Ohio State defensive Chase Young is expected to go to either the Washington Redskins or Detroit Lions at No. 3 and No. 2. Meanwhile, they will have their work cut out trying to compete with other teams for the small crop of premier rum pass-rushers set to test the market in free agency.

Regardless, New York knows full well what this roster needs in order to get back on track. It will be interesting to see whether or not they will be able to fill this void in the offseason.
