New York Giants cornerback James Bradberry was tabbed as a potential candidate to be traded or released at the beginning of the NFL offseason due to his salary cap hit of $21.9 million, which was an increased number due to restructures made last season. Given the holes on the roster and multiple first round picks in this year's draft, general manager Joe Schoen knew that capable players would have to be released in order to free up space on the cap. With Bradberry unlikely to return, the preferred way to remove his money off of the books would have been through a trade, as opposed to a release. On Monday, the Giants announced a final decision on Bradberry, as reported by Dan Duggan of The Athletic and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Giants have released Bradberry, per Rapoport and Duggan. The team surprisingly failed to find a trade partner for the 2020 Pro Bowler, whose release creates $10.7 million in cap savings this NFL offseason.
Bradberry, 28, signed a three-year, $45 million contract back in 2019. The former Carolina Panthers corner appeared in 32 games for the Giants, tallying seven interceptions and 17 passes defensed in two seasons.
With a pair of top picks in the NFL Draft, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal, waiting to be signed to new deals, Schoen had to make a move to free up space.
The move certainly leaves the Giants' cornerback cupboard bare, as Adoree Jackson is the only experienced starter on the roster at the moment.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Bradberry quickly signed by a contender.
