To say that the New York Giants struggled in the 2017 NFL season would be a massive understatement. As a result, the Giants will continue to make some notable changes this offseason.

One of them being a potential position switch for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are reportedly moving Rodgers-Cromartie to safety:

With a new coaching staff and some new schemes, the Giants are moving pieces around: CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is moving to safety, I’m told. He’ll compete with starter Darian Thompson.

Rodgers-Cromartie has since given an optimistic response to the reports, per NFL Network's Kimberly Jones:

Earlier, my colleague Ian Rapoport reported that NYG will move Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to safety. DRC responded positively, telling me: “All I need is a chance.”

There were plenty of factors that attributed to New York's disastrous 2017 campaign. Among the notable headlines was the turmoil in their secondary.

It is no secret that tensions in the Giants locker room had boiled over throughout the year. However, Rodgers-Cromartie's frustration came as a result of his decreased role on defense, which ultimately led to a one-game suspension.

The two-time Pro Bowler has been one of the most stable options at corner over the last decade and is just one season removed from earning second-team All-Pro honors. However, his production last year was hardly reminiscent of his 2016 campaign which may be the reason for the position change.

Such a switch is not uncommon for veteran corners on the back nine of their careers. Fortunately, Rodgers-Cromartie has become accustomed to playing everywhere on the field throughout his career and should certainly give safety Darian Thompson a run for his money.
