The New York Giants have undergone some serious changes this offseason. Among them will be the transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 base defense under new defensive coordinator James Bettcher.

That said, the Giants will need players that can fit the new scheme and they feel defensive end Kerry Wynn may be one of them. According to ESPN's Jordan Ranaan, New York has re-signed Wynn to a one-year deal:

“Kerry Wynn is returning to the Giants on a one-year deal, per source.”

Wynn signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Richmond prior to the 2014 NFL season. Since then, he has registered 101 tackles and three sacks in 49 games. Wynn's versatile skill set on the edge makes him a solid fit in Bettcher's new defense. However, it seems the Giants are still looking to add a bit more depth up front.

Bettcher came over from the Arizona Cardinals Cardinals and brought with him a couple of solid NFC West linebackers in Kareem Martin and Alec Ogletree. Now the Giants are reportedly set to meet with former Cardinals defensive lineman Josh Mauro in the coming days as well. That said, both Bettcher and Martin may be heavily involved in the pitch to bring their former peer to New York.

While a switch in defensive scheme does not seem like much, it can be quite a challenge if the team does not have the right player personnel. That said, it seems the Giants are focusing heavily on players their coaching staff is familiar with that know they can fit the scheme.
