People have been pointing their fingers to almost everyone, but to the guy who might be the problem. The New York Giants fan base, as well as media, might hate to admit it, yet here we are. For a variety of reasons, Eli Manning has escaped much of the criticism for the downfall of the franchise.
This might be no more.
With no more excuses left, Giants head coach Ben McAdoo was asked about Manning's position on the roster moving forward. While his answer was an attempt to dance around being directly critical of the gunslinger, McAdoo still managed to give America a money-quote.
“That includes everybody,” McAdoo said when asked if the quarterbacks are among those in play.
“It's disappointing,” McAdoo said. “We had chances down the field. We got to make those throws and make those catches. It's pro football. We got to catch them on all opportunities like that. You don't get many in the game.”
Eli Manning, in typical shoulder shrug emoji form, responded as you expected.
“Well, they've got to do what they've got to do,” Manning said. “I want to be out there, I want to keep playing with my teammates and keep working.”
For whatever it is worth, if the New York Giants remain a dumpster fire, the historic franchise could end up with one of the best picks in the NFL Draft. While that wouldn't inherently mean a changing of the guard is happening at the quarterback spot, at some point in the relatively near future, the Giants will need to find Eli's replacement.
After all, Manning has been trending in the wrong direction for years at this point.
