New York Giants rookie Daniel Jones made his NFL debut as a starting quarterback on Sunday. He had a bit of help from tight end Evan Engram, who produced a spectacular one-handed reception against the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 3 (via NFL).
The 22-year-old Jones replaced veteran Eli Manning to go under center for the Giants in Sunday's tilt with the Bucs. Jones was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by New York to be Manning's successor at quarterback, although nobody knew how soon general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur would decide to throw the rookie to the sharks.
Meanwhile the 25-year-old pass-catcher Engram, entering his third season in the league—all with the Giants—is turning into a reliable option for New York, validating his first-round selection in the 2017 draft. Engram caught nearly 1,300 yards in his first two seasons, and a prosperous connection with rookie Jones could lead to happy Giants fans for years to come.
