If there is one player who deserves the Most Improved Player award this season, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant believes it's no other than his second-year teammate Desmond Bane.

Bane has been really balling out for the Grizzlies this season after seeing his role increase in the latter part of the 2020-21 campaign. Prior to Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the 23-year-old swingman was putting up 17.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He's also doing it efficiently, making 47.2 percent of his shots–including 42.6 percent of his attempts from deep.

With that said, Morant took to Twitter to endorse his teammate for the MIP honor. After all, he sees no one more deserving than Bane given his production and overall impact on their winning.

Against the Lakers on Wednesday, Desmond Bane proved once again why Ja Morant was right to call him MIP. He dropped a 20-piece on the Purple and Gold to help propel the Grizzlies to an insane comeback for the 104-99 win.

In his rookie season, the 30th pick of the 2020 NBA Draft averaged just 9.2 points in a little over 22 minutes of play. He moved into the starting unit this year and saw his minutes increase to 30 a night, and clearly, he is rewarding Memphis for the trust.

While Bane is facing some tough competition for the MIP–with the likes of Jordan Poole, Darius Garland and Tyler Herro, to name a few, making a case for themselves–there is no doubt he has catapulted himself to the front of the pack.
