After the football player gave a commencement speech, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was obviously unhappy with Chief’s kicker, Harrison Butker.

Vedder made it clear at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 18. Variety reported that the singer of the popular band tore the NFL star to shreds on stage. This is due to Butker’s commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he took jabs at Pride Month and indicated that women belong in the kitchen.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said in his speech. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

He also stated, “While COVID might have played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique. The bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues. Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as growing support for the degenerate cultural values and media all stem from pervasiveness of disorder.”

The speech didn’t land too well with Vedder, who let it known in Vegas.

Eddie Vedder rips into Harrison Butker

During Pearl Jam’s performance, the frontman paused and acknowledged the band Deep See Diver, their opening act. The group has two female members, which sparked his whole take on what Butker spoke about.

“The singer, Jessica, and the keyboard player, Patti, they must not have believed that ‘diabolical lie’ that women should take pride in taking a back seat to their man,” Vedder said.

“There should be pride in homemaking if you’re a man or a woman…it’s one of the hardest jobs, and you should definitely take pride in it, but you’re going to benefit by giving up your dreams?” he then asked. “I couldn’t understand the logic, so I’m questioning it in public right now…It’s not a graduation speech.”

From there, he made it abundantly clear who he was talking about.

“The irony was that the football player — well, kicker…You see the kicker doesn’t have the pads because he doesn’t tackle anybody or get tackled — but he started telling men, ‘Don’t forget to puff up your chest and be more masculine. Don’t lose your masculinity,” the frontman said. “The irony was that when he was saying that, he looked like such a f—–g p—y.”

“There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman,” he then said to massive applause from the audience.

Vedder is not alone. Even the NFL has distanced itself from the controversial kicker, USA Today reports.

“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” senior vice president chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane said on Wednesday. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

There’s been a mix of support and outrage about the comments. In true rock and roll fashion, it’s no surprise that Vedder took a moment to address his thoughts on it.

As for Pearl Jam, they’re out on a worldwide tour promoting their latest album, Dark Matter.
