Due in most part to his ability to create as well as his remarkable shooting range, there are some who consider Atlanta Hawks rookie Trae Young to be the second manifestation of the great Stephen Curry. Young himself has welcomed the comparisons on multiple occasions, but claims that ever since he joined the Hawks, general manager Travis Schlenk has yet to discuss the subject with him.

Schlenk is now on his second year with the Hawks franchise. Prior to being appointed as the team's GM, the 42-year-old spent four years with the Golden State Warriors organization. He started out as a video scout for the Dubs in 2004, and made his way up the ladder all the way to assistant GM. Schlenk was a first-hand witness to the rise of Curry as a premier superstar, and surely, he knows a thing or two about the two-time MVP.

Nonetheless, Schlenk does not seem to think that Young is ready to step into those shoes. Or perhaps he just refuses to put additional pressure on his prized rookie, who already has a lot riding on his shoulders as it is. Whatever the case may be, it was Young himself who confirmed the reality of this seemingly taboo subject to Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

“[Schlenk] never brings up Steph to me,” Young said. “He definitely knows my strengths and my ability to score. He thinks my overall best attribute is passing, so he brings that up more to me than anything. Obviously, a lot of people want to talk about the Golden State stuff, but he hasn’t talked to me about anything like that.”

When he entered the league in 2010, Curry was not the polished cornerstone player he is today. Some might even argue that in some areas, Young is currently more advanced than Curry was at that point in his career. Nevertheless, the expectations are high for Young, and for his part, the teenager is more than willing to take them head on.
