Dion Waiters has faced his share of harsh criticism for the evident weight gain he's had after coming back from a nagging ankle injury. Listed as 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, the Miami Heat shooting guard looked a lot heftier than most expected, at least 15 or 20 pounds overweight, which caused him to move slowly through his recovery and return to action in January.

Waiters took to Instagram to show off his revamped body (much like he did years ago after similar criticism for his lack of fitness), captioning it by detailing the process of it all:

“Last year when I came off one of the most depressing and frustrating times of my life. Coming off injury and not feeling like myself nor looking like myself I was in a dark place mentally and physically, because the game I love so much was taken away due to season ending surgery.

Now a days [sic] with this social media ran world they laughed at me, made jokes, etc, not knowing what I was battling or going through everyday. So instead of me joining the circus I told myself you from (Philly) you’ve been through worst s**t in your life than this. So I promise myself I would work my ass off and get back to where I was before the injury.

I’m not done yet but I know somebody in the world prolli needed to hear this. Stay positive block out the outside noise and grind.

Waiters' conditioning has come in question many a time and he's always responded by tuning himself into a chiseled two-guard, but the main issue is whether he can stay healthy after all the surgeries and maintain the demanding level of fitness the Heat often demands of its players.

Hopefully for him and Heat fans, there's only room to go up from here.
