There is reportedly a growing belief that Hassan Whiteside will ask for a trade when he picks up his 2019-20 player option with the Miami Heat, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Whiteside will make $27 million next season. The Heat tried to trade the big man last offseason, but weren't able to find a taker. It remains to be seen if Miami will be able to move the center this summer, though it looks like Whiteside is ready to leave South Beach and restart his career elsewhere.

The Heat are looking to build their team around Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and Bam Adebayo. In the post-Dwyane Wade era, having large contracts like Whiteside's on the salary cap doesn't make much sense for the Heat.

This past season, Whiteside averaged 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent from the field. He recorded 36 double-doubles. Miami missed the postseason, finishing with an overall record of 39-43.

Adebayo has more upside than Whiteside. The Heat want to make the high-flyer the permanent starter at center next season.

It's going to be interesting to see if Whiteside has any trade value around the league. The only thing working in his favor is that he's on an expiring contract.
