Back in 2012, Stan Van Gundy — while enjoying a can of Pepsi — revealed to the media that the Orlando Magic management told him his center Dwight Howard was lobbying to push him out of the team. An unsuspecting Howard, then, entered the scene and put his arms around Van Gundy, creating an awkward situation.

That pregame interview, of course, was one of the NBA's best moments. However, that didn't hide the dysfunction of the team back then.

Stan Van Gundy's admission about Howard wanting him fired also just solidified the Atlanta native's reputation as a “diva.”

Five years after that infamous press talk, however, Dwight Howard now wants to set the record straight about what really happened.

Speaking to Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year and new Charlotte Hornets big man said it was the Magic who came to him in 2011 and asked about his opinion of finding a new head coach.

“That previous summer, the front office asked me about Stan, and I told them I thought he was losing his voice with the team. But they were the ones who said they should start looking for other coaches.”

This story sure differs from Van Gundy's revelation; however, it also contradicts what Howard previously said in his documentary back in 2014 when he admitted that he suggested to the team to “get a new voice.”

It looks like Howard is trying to save his image, but with all said and done, the eight-time NBA All-Star might just want to focus on basketball and let his game do the talking.
