Who said the Charlotte Hornets are nothing without LaMelo Ball?
With LaMelo Ball unavailable against the Atlanta Hawks due to COVID-19 protocols, the Hornets needed someone to step up. They've always had the talent, but without Ball, someone else had to take over. Luckily for the Hornets, they have one Miles Bridges.
Bridges has been a key contributor for the Hornets as Ball's sidekick and best lob threat. Against Atlanta, though, the young forward proved he could be the main guy if their star is having an off night. Bridges exploded for 32 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds, as the Hornets survived without Ball leading the way.
This is already Bridges' sixth 30-point game of the season. Prior to the 2021 season, he's only had three. That's impressive growth from Bridges, who has already locked in his spot as one of the Hornets' building blocks for the future.
As for LaMelo Ball, well, he's incredibly hyped for his team winning without him on the court.
Behind Ball and Bridges' magnificent play, the Hornets have rolled into the sixth seed with a 14 – 11 record. They are one of the reasons why the East has been so damn competitive this season. This is an encouraging sign for the Hornets, who seem to have found their franchise cornerstone in LaMelo Ball.
Sunday's win over the Hawks, though, means a lot more to the Hornets. This win proves that they aren't just LaMelo Ball's team: even without him, they can still survive. Once the youngest Ball brother returns to action, expect a lot more highlights from him and the rejuvenated Bridges.
