Charlotte Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball took the league by storm in what turned out to be a sensational debut campaign for him. One of his biggest fans happens to be Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson who himself had quite a prediction on LaMelo's future in the NBA.

Despite playing in just one season, Magic is adamant that The Hornets star has what it takes to one day bag the league's Most Valuable Player trophy:

Johnson made his bold claim during the opening ceremonies of a Gastonia Honey Hunters baseball game in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Magic is friends with team owner Brandon Bellamy and the latter called in a favor from the Hall of Famer to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the newly-formed team's inaugural game (h/t Jacob Rude of SI.com).

Technically speaking, Johnson said that Ball could be an “MVP candidate” in the future. He didn't exactly say that Ball could actually win the MVP trophy, but you get the gist.

What is clear is that Magic Johnson is extremely high on the Hornets youngster. Let's not forget that Magic is widely considered as the greatest point guard of all time, so for him to throw so much praise towards Ball's direction certainly speaks volumes of how bright the future is for LaMelo.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Johnson took home the MVP trophy three times in his career. Clearly, he knows what he's talking about here.
