Romelu Lukaku came back to Chelsea last summer in a shocking turn of events after a couple of terrific years at Inter Milan. However, things haven't exactly gone to plan at Stamford Bridge and it now feels inevitable the Belgian will leave for the second time in the coming months. That being said, Inter is reportedly interested in a reunion with their former striker, per Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Lukaku won't come cheap though after the Blues bought him for over $100 million, which means Inter could look to sign him on a season-long loan for the 2022-23 campaign. Lautaro Martinez is still being constantly linked to a move away from the club, while 36-year-old Edin Dzeko isn't exactly in his twilight years anymore.

Despite Lukaku's struggles in London where he's scored just five Premier League goals this term, the 28-year-old enjoyed the utmost success at the San Siro, forming an unstoppable partnership with Martinez. In two seasons, Lukaku bagged 47 Serie A goals and supplied 13 assists.

Of course, Lukaku faced a ton of scrutiny earlier in the term when he publically said in an interview with Sky Sports Italy that he should've never left Inter and claimed there was “unfinished business” with the Nerazzurri, saying he would one day return. His comments left Chelsea fans furious and ever since, Lukaku has fallen out of favor under manager Thomas Tuchel, with Kai Havertz typically starting up top.

Lukaku's days in a Chelsea shirt are evidently numbered and it will be interesting to see if Inter pulls the trigger and secures a loan move for him. A fresh start at a club where he previously shined certainly feels like it would benefit both parties.
