Why USA Could Win This Game
It seems like the future of soccer in the USA is in great hands. In the squad that just beat Morocco 3-0 a couple of days back, there was a ton of young talent. One of the goalscorers, Tim Weah, is just 22, Jesus Ferreira is 21, Yunus Musah is just 19, and Brender Aaronson is 21. These guys and many more are the future of this team and should be going strong for years to come. Their youthful energy is maybe US's best bet to be a great team in the 2022 World Cup and in these friendlies.
Individual talent is also great in this USA team. Christian Pulisic might have been somewhat disappointing for Chelsea this season, but he has been doing great for the USMNT, reaching double-digit assists in record time. Tyler Adams is coming off of a great season, while Brender Aaronson celebrated his big move to Leeds with his sixth international goal. These guys are for real and they are going to be great in this game as well, despite the strength of the opposition.
There are a few more reasons why the USA could win this game. They have been doing great recently, with 19 straight wins on home soil. Additionally, their high press system is working well, showing how the USMNT can adapt to the European type of football that has been so successful and popular. Last, but certainly not least, they have a ton of momentum and a win here would just give the squad a whole load of confidence.
Why Uruguay Could Win This Game
If there is a third fiddle in the South American soccer scene, it would be the Uruguayans. While their early success is still relevant, winning two World Cups, they have been overshadowed by both Argentina and Brazil for a very long time. Now, they are ready to challenge their dominance with a young squad. Similar to the US, Uruguay has some talented guys and they are ready to showcase their talent, even in a seemingly meaningless friendly versus the US.
The old guard is still somewhat there, as Uruguay fielded guys like Edinson Cavani, Matias Vecino, and Sebastian Coates, to name a few, versus Mexico. However, they also played Federico Valverde, coming off of a La Liga and Champions League title with Real Madrid, Ronald Araujo, coming off a great individual season with Barcelona, and Darwin Nunez, who should be one of the stories of the summer. All these three guys, plus many more in the squad, are young and hungry. They will look to find any opportunity to show how amazing they will be as a complete national roster in the future.
Most importantly, Uruguay has momentum and form. They are unbeaten and only conceded two goals in the entire 2022 calendar year, maintaining a full win record. They just demolished a Mexico side that is, in a lot of regards similar to the USA squad, and they have done it in a masterful way, taking care of their opportunities. If they are able to stay clinical versus the USMNT, it should be a win for the Uruguayans by the end of the game.
Final USA-Uruguay Prediction & Pick
With friendlies, it is really difficult to predict. However, when it is a World Cup year, the friendlies are much less friendly. Teams are testing out themselves against different regions. The US disposed of an African team, and a good one at that, but the South Americans might be a bit too big. Our final USA-Uruguay prediction is an Uruguay win at the Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City.
Final USA-Uruguay Pick: Uruguay (+145)
