Former NBA guard Isaiah Thomas helped the USA Men's AmeriCup Qualifying team top the Bahamas 93-77 in their fifth FIBA game with his 19 points.

After showing what the league he was capable of doing as a Boston Celtic in the 2016-17 season, injuries kept him from playing his best basketball as he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, and even the Los Angeles Lakers where he never reached his full potential.

Many gave up on Thomas, believing that he would never return to the player that once averaged 28.9 points at his very best and led a team to the first seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, Thomas has not given up on himself, as he has taken this opportunity of playing for the USA men's team to find himself once again and prove to those watching that he still has what it takes to play in the NBA. Thomas reflected on his performance against the Bahamas after the game, via USA Basketball:

“It felt great,” said Thomas. “It's my first time playing in a little over a year. So, you know, I was a little rusty, but it felt amazing to be out there, competing against really good players, and also representing my country. So, I was happy to be out there, it felt good, and most importantly, we got the win and we'll be back at it tomorrow.”

The USA team hopes to earn a spot in the FIBA AmeriCup tournament in 2022 and, with a 5-0 record, their chances seem very high. Though Thomas would love to play in NBA once again, his focus will be on help this team win. The return of Isaiah Thomas is underway, as this 19-point performance was just the beginning.
