The Jacksonville Jaguars have ushered in some significant changes this offseason. Regardless, cornerback D.J. Hayden still has high expectations for this defense going into the 2019 NFL season.

It is no secret that the Jaguars suffered some setbacks as of late. According to Gene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union, Hayden still thinks Jacksonville boasts the best secondary in the league:

“All that good stuff — getting turnovers, sacks and making big plays — I feel like we’ll do that,” Hayden said. “I feel totally 100 percent comfortable with what we’re doing and our safeties. I feel we’ll be the best secondary in the league.”

The Jaguars are not that far removed from having unquestionably the best defensive group in the league. Unfortunately, they took a bit of a step back during the disastrous 2018 campaign. Regardless, there is still good reason for Hayden to be optimistic about this unit moving forward.

Despite all the recent changes, the Jaguars still have one of the most talented cornerback duos in the league with Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. Even if Jacksonville has some trouble filling the other voids on their roster, they can take solace in the fact that Ramsey and Bouye will be able to match up with any receiving corps in the NFL.

Hayden will be hoping to do his part as the nickel cornerback. His first season with the Jaguars was marred by a toe injury that forced him to miss significant time. Jacksonville will need as much help as they can get in the passing game and the run game considering the lack of experience at the safety position.
