The Jacksonville Jaguars are nearing a close to what has been nothing short of a disappointing 2018 season that has seen them fall completely out of the playoff picture.

This has also featured quarterback Blake Bortles fall completely out of favor with the coaching staff losing his job to backup Cod Kessler over the last couple of weeks. Despite the Jaguars being out of playoff contention, head coach Doug Marrone voiced on Monday that he has no plans of putting Bortles back into the starting lineup, according to The Canadian Press.

But coach Doug Marrone doesn't plan on switching back to Bortles for the final two games of the season, beginning at Miami (7-7) on Sunday.

“All the players, we're telling them just to be ready to go,” Marrone said Monday. “It's hard to evaluate when there's a high level of inconsistency around you.”

It has become quite clear that the Jaguars have their mind set on moving on from Bortles following this season. This notion is being made clearer when him being unable to get back on the field to replace Kessler, who has struggled tremendously to find any consistency. In the last three games, the Jaguars had recorded 658 yards over that stretch, which is the lowest total over a three-game stretch since the 2012 season when Blaine Gabbert was the starter.

This had all come to a head in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Washington Redskins as they totaled a season-low 192 offensive yards that included Kessler completing 9-of-17 passes for 57 yards. Despite the utter lack of production from the offense, Marrone clearly doesn't believe that Bortles could help on that end.

The writing is on the wall for him to be on the move following this year, but that could prove to be a difficult task as the team is on the books for a three-year, $54 million extension that begins in the 2019 campaign. There is a dead cap hit of just $5 million for the 2020 campaign that may help make the process of moving him an easier one. Until then, it looks like Bortles' tenure will be nearing an end.
