Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones know that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew was not the most heralded rookie to come out of the 2019 NFL Draft class and make his debut this season, but he'll take offense if you don't put some respect on his name.

The 23-year-old Washington State product, selected by Jacksonville in the sixth round of last April's draft, corrected a reporter on Monday afternoon who asked about putting up “better or similar” numbers to fellow first-year signal-caller Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones. Minshew was quick to insert that the reporter was right the first time in stating “better.”

Murray and Jones were selected in the top 10 of the draft class while Gardner Minshew had to wait days to hear his name called. The Arizona Cardinals made the Heisman Trophy winning Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Murray the first overall pick of the 2019 draft while the New York Giants stunningly took the seemingly overlooked Duke product Jones five picks later.

Kyler Murray finished his debut season in the NFL with 3,722 passing yards on 349 completions with a 64.4 completion rate, throwing for 20 touchdowns. He also got the job done on the ground, rushing for 544 yards and scoring four more touchdowns.

Daniel Jones, meanwhile, had to wait two games to cement his status as the Giants' starting quarterback (and later missed two games sidelined with an ankle sprain late in the season). In a dozen starts, Jones finished his first season with 3,010 passing yards on 281 completions with a 61.8 completion percentage, throwing 24 touchdowns. Gardner Minshew isn't going to concede the argument based on those stats.

Finally, Minshew's numbers with his rookie season in the books tally up to 3,271 passing yards on 285 completions with a 60.6 completion rate, throwing 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Gardner Minshew did not beat Murray or Jones in every category, but he's clearly ahead in confidence.
