The Jacksonville Jaguars no longer have to suffer the criticism of starting Blake Bortles at quarterback this season, as the team announced the signing of former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles on Wednesday.

Foles agreed to terms with the Jaguars that will see him earn somewhere between $88 million to $102 million on a four-year deal. The massive contract pretty much spells the end of Bortles' tenure in Jacksonville.

As part of the Jaguars' offseason moves for a minor rebuild, the team also signed John DeFilippo as their new offensive coordinator. John Oehser of Jaguars.com wrote about DeFilippo's excitement to have Foles as the team's new signal-caller by saying that he was “really, really thrilled that Nick wanted to be a Jaguar.”

The 40-year-old DeFilippo served as the Eagles' quarterback coach between 2016 and 2017. In the latter half of his tenure in Philly, the Eagles ended up winning the Super Bowl and with none other than Foles himself leading the charge throughout the second half of the season en route to Philadelphia's first NFL title since 1960.

The reunion between DeFilippo and Foles means that the journeyman QB will have little to no time to waste learning the Jaguars' offensive scheme. DeFilippo quoted that Foles will ” have a very familiar terminology” of the Jags' revamped offense and that “the majority of (Jacksonville's) system will be very similar to what Nick’s used to.”

With an imposing defense ready to make a comeback in 2019, the Jaguars basically need to improve on the offensive front. Signing Foles along with a mentor that he's had good chemistry within the past could very well be the most crucial upgrade for them to return to their recent glory.
