At one point it looked like Leonard Fournette was the savior for the Jacksonville Jaguars but after an injury-filled season with lots of drama, it appears the two sides are at odds.
According to the Associated Press the Jaguars notified Fournette that the suspension last month voided the rest of the guarantees in the contract. Fournette was suspended one game after his dust-up week 13 with Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson.
According to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network, if the Jaguars do void Fournette's remaining guarantees, the NFL Players Association will file a grievance on behalf of the young running back.
Rapaport was speaking on “Good Morning Football” and said it's not even clear if the Jaguars are even allowed to void the contract and it depends how the contract was written. After Sunday's game Tom Coughlin said he wasn't happy with the way Fournette and TJ Yeldon acted on the sideline.
“I am disappointed in the behavior today from T.J. Yeldon and Leonard Fournette,” Coughlin said. “They were disrespectful, selfish and their behavior was unbecoming that of a professional football player.”
Fournette just finished the second year of a four year $27 million fully guaranteed contract. Fournette has already missed 11 games because of injury and suspension and now there have to be questions if they are going to try and release him this offseason.
It would still seem shocking if they tried to move on from such a high draft pick so early but if they were going to try and do that, they have already done the first step.
