The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing to do a better job of protecting Trevor Lawrence in 2022, and that all starts with the battle in the trenches. Well, the Jags made a significant move to secure one of their key offensive linemen on Tuesday, announcing the decision to lock down Cam Robinson via the franchise tag.

Robinson is one of the team's best offensive linemen and will have a key role to play in the Jags' rebuild going forward. If Jacksonville is hoping to get the most out of Lawrence in 2022, retaining the 26-year-old is a crucial component in achieving that goal.
This is in all likelihood just the groundwork for what should be a long-term contract extension for the former second-round pick. He's impressed in his first few years in the league, making big strides over the past two seasons, and now he'll look to assist Lawrence's development with a big payday.
The Alabama product has started all 61 games he's featured in throughout his first five years in the league. After an injury limited him to just two games in 2018, Robinson has since started 44 games over the past three years. With Doug Pederson taking over as head coach, the Jaguars will look to improve off an abysmal 2021 season that was marred by their head coaching scandal and Urban Meyer's departure just one year into his five-year deal.
Lawrence had a less than stellar rookie season, but there is still optimism surrounding the highly-heralded Clemson product that he can be the quarterback of the future in Jacksonville, and their latest move proves they're committed to building around him.
