This shouldn't surprise anybody, but Trevor Lawrence will be the Jacksonville Jaguars' starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Houston Texans. Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer made the announcement while talking to the media on Wednesday.

Meyer had been rather coy about the Lawrence decision, but there was never any way the No. 1 overall pick wasn't going to start right away. While the Clemson product hasn't had the best preseason, that didn't matter when it came to making this decision. Jacksonville drafted Lawrence first overall to be the immediate starter and to be the quarterback of the future.

Gardner Minshew is currently in place as the backup quarterback. While Minshew has experience as a starter, the Jaguars weren't going to have him blocking Lawrence from the starting gig.

So far in two preseason games, Lawrence has completed 20-of-32 passes for 184 yards. He doesn't have a touchdown or an interception thrown yet. Again, not all that impressive, but there's nothing to be concerned about here. The young quarterback certainly hasn't been helped out by his offensive line, and his passing weapons haven't been all that great.

Making matters worse for the Jaguars is rookie Travis Etienne's foot injury that has already knocked him out for the entire season. That takes away Lawrence's star college teammate and a key weapon.

Still, it's Trevor Lawrence's time to shine in Jacksonville. We'll see how he responds.
