It appears as though the Jacksonville Jaguars have made retaining pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue a top priority this offseason. According to Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell, a deal between the two sides should get done relatively soon as Jacksonville “would love to have him back.”

“It's a deal that we feel like could take a little bit of time but should be done hopefully relatively easily,” Caldwell recently told the team's official website.

If the Jaguars are unable to ultimately come to terms with the veteran pass rusher for whatever reason, Jacksonville could attempt to make a splash early on in the 2020 NFL Draft. As it stands today, the Jaguars own three of the first 42 overall selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.

“It's really exciting, looking at what we have – the pieces we can fill with our extra draft capital,” Caldwell added, via the team's official website. “I've never had this type of draft capital – not only here, but in my career. We're excited to use that and see what we can do with it.”

The Jaguars notably finished the 2019-20 campaign in last place in the AFC South standings. However, the struggling franchise is just a few seasons removed from making a trip to the postseason and even the AFC Championship Game. It is also worth noting that the Jaguars need to keep the core of the team's stout defense intact going forward as the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts will continue to serve as formidable opponents going forward.
