Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles will likely be one of the more highly sought-after free agents this coming offseason, and Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report thinks the Jacksonville Jaguars might jump all over him.
Foles is definitely a strange case.
While he hasn't had a great career statistically by any means, he has a Super Bowl MVP under his belt after dethroning Tom Brady and the New England Patriots last February.
Playoff track records are a big thing for NFL quarterbacks, and with the Jaguars desperate for a competent guy under center, they may very well make a run at Foles.
Of course, Jacksonville would need to sort out its own quarterback situation first, meaning it would have to cut Blake Bortles. If the Jaguars part ways with Bortles before June 1, they would save $4.5 million, and if done afterward, they would save $9.5 million.
The Jags are about to conclude a miserable season that has seen them go 4-11 through 15 games after making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game a year ago.
Based on the fact that Jacksonville is just a year removed from that deep playoff run, it would make sense for the franchise to go out and get a seasoned veteran at signal-caller rather than rely on a rookie.
That doesn't mean the Jaguars shouldn't draft a quarterback, but with a roster full of talented players, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, it would serve the Jags well do land a signal-caller who has been there before.
