Utah Jazz rookie shooting guard Donovan Mitchell dominated the headlines Friday night after going off for 41 points in the team's win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Mitchell made franchise history for most points by a rookie in the process.

However, it was not the only impressive feat he achieved on his big night. The 13th overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft also became the first rookie to score at least 40 points in a game since L.A. Clippers star forward Blake Griffin did it in 2011, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Furthermore, Mitchell did it in spectacular fashion as he finished 6-of-12 from 3-point land. According to Ben Dowsett of Basketball Insiders, he also became the first rookie since Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry to hit five or more three's in consecutive games.

Needless to say, it has been an incredible run for the overlooked shooting guard. More importantly, he has played an integral role in Utah's current five-game winning streak.

The Jazz took a critical blow with the departure of former star forward Gordon Hayward. It got even worse with the absence of center Rudy Gobert due to a knee injury. However, Donovan Mitchell has been the spark they needed to finally get back into the thick of the competitive Western Conference.
