The Utah Jazz have added a new player to their roster in the form of guard Trey Lewis. According to the Jazz’, the team has signed Lewis to a deal, and though the details of the contract were not made available, star Donovan Mitchell did not do a fine job of hiding his feelings over the news by immediately mocking Lewis on Twitter.

Lewis and Mitchell are cool, though. Like Mitchell, Lewis is a former Louisville Cardinals player, so the two go way back. They were teammates during the 2015-16 season when Mitchell was a freshman.

Lewis started his college career at Penn State before transferring to Cleveland State. He later moved to Louisville as a graduate transfer with the intent of improving his NBA stock, but a self-imposed postseason ban by the university took away a big opportunity for Lewis and fellow senior star transfer Damion Lee to showcase their skills under the bright lights of March Madness.

Lewis went into the 2016 NBA Draft after finishing his stint in Louisville, but went unselected. He played for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Summer League team that year before beginning a career in Europe, where he played for German team Medi Bayreuth. He also suited up for another German ball club in Ratiopharm Ulm before seeing action in the French league for JL Bourg Basket.

Before inking a deal with the Jazz, Lewis impressed Utah with his performance in this year’s Summer League in which he averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 18.5 minutes across four games. While Lewis likely won't make the big club, he could wind up with Utah's G League team in Salt Lake City.
