Donovan Mitchell was the star of the show for the Utah Jazz in Game 1 of their Western Conference First Round series against the Dallas Mavericks. The versatile scorer led the way with a 32-point outing en route to a 99-93 win.

Mitchell did not have much to go his way over the course of the first half, as he finished with a mere two points scored on 1-9 shooting. He had quite a difficult time in creating separation on the floor against a Mavericks team that capped off regular season play ranking second in points per game allowed with a 104.7 average.

The script flipped for Mitchell in the latter half of the contest; the versatile guard scored 30 points as he found relative ease in scoring while in the paint.

When asked during his post-game press conference about just what changed for him in the second half, Mitchell pinpointed his mindset heading into the final 24 minutes of the game.

“Just being in attack mode,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell further added that he was a “little too passive” in the first half, but this all changed for the three-time All-Star in the late stages of the game.

Overall, this was the fourth 30-point half of Mitchell’s playoff career, which moved him above Allen Iverson for the most such outings by any player over the past 25 postseasons.

Mitchell and the Jazz will now look ahead to Game 2 of the series on Monday.
