In the early going of training camp for the New York Jets, two animated discussions between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Garrett Wilson blew up on social media, but both players in question downplayed the incidents, saying they are competitive players who want to get things right.

“It's truly enlightening for me every time we have problems like that, despite how it may look, just because I am an emotional, passionate guy,” Garrett Wilson said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “So, when we lose, I might look a certain way, but in reality, all those conversations, those things are helping me be better for Aaron because he can make your life real easy. So, for me, it's my job to be on my details and he's been on me about those details.”

Aaron Rodgers had a similar explanation for the animated discussions, saying that he has to get on the same page with Wilson for the duo to reach its potential with the Jets.

“He's got to get on my page, but I have to get on his page, too, because he's got a whole book that I need to understand fully — skill set and ability and feel and rhythm and all the different things that he does out there,” Rodgers said, via Cimini. “So those are good conversations. They might appear to be much more heated than they are, but there's usually a smile on our face afterwards — at least one of us.”

In general, Rodgers has voiced displeasure with sloppiness from his Jets teammates in recent days, but called it “benign” behavior, saying, “I like to push guys to believe in themselves maybe more than they do at the time,” according to Cimini.

Rodgers and the Jets are trying to live up to expectations that they had going into the 2023 season, when the quarterback suffered a torn Achilles on the first drive of the season.

How will Garrett Wilson produce in a full season with Aaron Rodgers?

Garrett Wilson has been a 1,000-yard receiver for the Jets in each of his first two seasons, and it has been impressive to many due to the quarterback play that he has dealt with, mostly with Zach Wilson. The connection with Rodgers was highly-anticipated, and fans have been waiting for a long time to see it in action in regular season games.

Hopefully, Rodgers and Wilson can get on the same page and help the Jets emerge as contenders in the AFC this season.
