Aljamain Sterling had a close fight with Petr Yan at UFC 273 and many people are divided on the scorecards. Former referee ‘Big' John McCarthy spoke out on his scorecard after the fight.

The two important rounds are the first two. How someone scored the first round and second round will help determine who won at UFC 273. The first round is either a 10-9 for Aljamain Sterling or a 10-9 for Petr Yan. The second round is either a 10-8 or 10-9 for Aljamain Sterling. Both of those scores have major impacts on the outcome.

John McCarthy spoke out on his podcast and made it clear how he scored the first round at UFC 273. He made it clear he thought there was no way Aljamain Sterling took it over, Petr Yan.

“There is no way in the world you’re gonna tell me that Aljo (Sterling) won that first round, but I will say, I thought he fought a great fight.”

The former referee thought it was a good fight but Aljamain Sterling did not do enough to win the fight. UFC 273 had many different scorecards and even the judges were not sure who won.

“I thought it was a smart tactic by Aljamain to stay on the outside, to move continuously, but he didn’t land much. He landed a couple of kicks, not real hard, and he got hit with some heavy shots.”

Either way, Aljamain Sterling is officially the champion after UFC 273 and he could be set to defend against TJ Dillashaw next. Petr Yan could still be in the title conversation and should be looking to bounce back quickly.
