Karl-Anthony Towns’ performance last season may be one of the best that the league has seen coming from a rookie in recent years.

His game boasts of a wide repertoire of skills, sound fundamentals, and solid basketball I.Q., making Timberwolves fans grin from ear to ear when thinking about the team’s future.

What’s even scary for opponents is the fact that behind Towns is an intense and knowledgeable mentor in Kevin Garnett.

In a recent article by Jared Zwerling for NBPA.com, the former University of Kentucky stalwart harped about the impact that the former MVP and Defensive Player of the Year will have in his play.

“I think (my game's) going to be much, much better. I've had a whole season to learn under (Kevin Garnett). I just feel that I can be a much better player.”

It still remains to be seen if Garnett will continue playing next season, but if that happens, the 20-year-old Towns would get another great boost in his ever-improving self.

New Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau was Boston’s main defensive brain when Garnett won the top defender award in 2008. If this partnership still has something in it, then the latter could act as an excellent bridge for Thibodeau in making Towns an elite defender as well.

But that’s just one of the benefits that Karl-Anthony Towns could get under Kevin Garnett’s tutelage. A lot more are yet to be learned, making the coming years very exciting for fans in Minnesota.
