Khabib Nurmagomedov is most likely always going to be linked with Georges St-Pierre after many were hoping to see the two fight in the UFC. The Russian was recently asked about fighting the Canadian champion.

The former UFC champion was recently on the Full Send Podcast where he talked about Georges St-Pierre. The legend was the one person he would have loved to fight.

“When I was a kid, like 16, 18, [St-Pierre] was already like a legend. A champion. He was my father’s favorite fighter. Fighting with him; I know this is never gonna happen but honestly, if I have a chance to fight with someone I’m gonna pick GSP,” Nurmagomedov said.

A fight between the two was always going to be tough to get organized. They were both champions at very different times in the UFC.

“When I was on top, when it was my prime time, it was not his prime time,” he explained. … “Almost ten years ago his time was finished. My opinion, his prime time was 2010, ’11, ’12, but ’13 it was not his time. Remember when he fought with Johny Hendricks? In this time, I feel he’s not enjoying [competing] inside the cage. He’s not hungry anymore. I don’t know about his feelings, but this is what I feel. For this sport you have to be hungry. If you’re not hungry, if you don’t really want this, you have to finish.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov was not against fighting Georges St-Pierre in the UFC before he retired. Now, the chapter is closed and the Russian has no plans to fight anyone.

“After what happened with my father, then my conversation with my mother, after I fight with Justin Gaethje, all of this came and I understood I was never gonna fight with him.”
