Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair has a reason to light a beam at his home after scoring a personal success. The Kings have reportedly agreed with McNair on a contract extension, thanks in large part to the breakout campaign Sacramento is having in the 2022-23 NBA regular season.

“ESPN Sources: After orchestrating a remarkable franchise renaissance, Sacramento Kings GM Monte McNair has agreed on a contract extension. Under McNair, who was in final months of his deal, Kings are third in West and on cusp of ending a 16-year postseason absence,” reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Sacramento's history is littered with examples of bad decisions, but the Kings were not going to make one this time, as the franchise has just secured the commitment of one of the major reasons for its turnaround.

The Kings hired Monte McNair in 2020 as the team's newest general manager and as the successor of Joe Dumars, who was named the interim executive vice president of operations of Sacramento following the resignation of Vlade Divac as team general manager. In less than two years on the job, McNair is already seeing the dramatic rise of the Kings from a perennial laughing stock to a serious playoff contender.

Sacramento is currently third in the Western Conference standings with 27 wins against 19 losses. The Kings are poised to make a grand return to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Regardless of how this season ends up for the Kings, the team surely is seeing brighter things to come for the franchise with McNair pulling the strings.
